Using the poison mist spell is effective as the arena is large and you get spacing to dwindle down his health. Dark spells are good but regular pyromancies are not effective at all, I wouldn't even recommend brining any. 19 is best for the 5 slots and I find the starter Pyro armor to be perfect when upgraded to +9/10, just utilize the DWGR and a good shield and light DEX-weapon and you can ninja-flip without Havel's Ring.
